Born in Baltimore City, Carlmichael “Stokey” Cannady was raised in the Whitelock/Reservoir Hill community where he hasn’t always been the beacon of light and epitome of complete transformation that he is today.
Faced with the harsh realities of being raised without a father and a mother addicted to drugs, Stokey fell prey to the street life of Baltimore and all that it had to offer.
After paying his debt to society and pledging to give back to the very city that he harmed – Stokey has made it his life’s work to revitalize his beloved Baltimore, one youth at a time.
Stokey is committed to the revitalization of Baltimore.
Passionately committed to the neighborhood in which he was raised, for over a decade Stokey has spearheaded the efforts to make certain that every young person was prepared for the school year, that the homeless were provided warm shelter and wholesome meals, that there were no Christmas trees without gifts beneath them and that the seniors were provided their life sustaining medications, despite costs.
You can find Stokey at the helm of community basketball tournaments, summer programming for youth, holiday giveaways and community mediation.
During the 2015 Baltimore Uprising, Stokey was instrumental in organizing peaceful rallies and utilized his influence to bring calm after the storm.
Carlmichael “Stokey” Cannady is an internationally sought after anti-violence activist, published author, entertainment executive, devoted father, philanthropist and humanitarian that understands the correlation between where crimes occur, limited resources for young people and poverty stricken communities, which has afforded him the unique platform to be the voice for the voiceless.
Stokey’s work ethic, professionalism and drive for success is best demonstrated in his various professional roles; Stokey serves as the President and CEO of The Stokey Project, The Marketing Manager for Shoe City and is in Partnership with Hip-Hop Legend Jay-Z and Rocnation.
When faced with the choice to leave or lead, Carlmichael “Stokey” Cannady decided to LEAD, with the support of his community, elected officials and surrounded by family and friends, Stokey, officially filed to run for Mayor of Baltimore City 2020.
